A Book of Book Covers

2023

01. PROJECT OVERVIEW
Conceptually, this project explores the function of a book cover as both art and advertisement. The size of a mass market paperback, the book is made up entirely of 8 unique front and back covers for William Goldman’s classic novel The Princess Bride (even better known for its 1987 film adaption). I approached each iteration from a different perspective, drawing from classic and contemporary cover design conventions, while still attempting to faithfully represent the story.

02. DESIGN PROCESS
This project was also an exploration of risograph printing as a medium, requiring me to figure out the best strategy for how to print a run of 5 books on a printer optimized for printing 100+ copies per run. To complete the book as efficiently and cost effectively as possible while still making each cover distinct, I used 7 colours, printed both the back and front cover on a single sided piece of paper than folded it to make it double sided, and printed two designs per page.
